As a young boy growing up in Fargo, North Dakota, George showed an early interest in wildlife. It was not unusual for his mother to find him in the back yard photographing the local birds and flowers. Nurtured by his parents and their great love of the prairie, George studied biology and business at the University of North Dakota. While a student, he spent two summers at the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center studying the food handling behavior of the red fox.
