I was born the sixth child in a large extended family in the middle of England during the 1950s. Growing up had, as usual, its problems, but I got there - well, to 5 feet and a bit, anyway. I've done all sorts of jobs from teaching to child minding, from handling complaints to canteen washer-up with even a spell working for the dreaded Inland Revenue and I've an embarrassingly bad degree in Maths. Nowadays I am mother of 3, aunt to 11 and great aunt to 16 and every one of them knows much better than me about everything, but they are all very satisfactory despite that.
