David C.F. Rentz received his PhD in Entomology from the University of California, Berkeley and was appointed Curator of Entomology at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. He held that position until 1975 when he took a similar position at the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco. From 1976 to 2001, he was Curator of Orthopteroid Insects in the Australian National Insect Collection, Canberra (CSIRO).
