A keen interest in medical history was sparked when the author read an account of the grave-robbing slave, Grandison Harris, whose job it was to provide cadavers for anatomy classes at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. A city well known for its annual Master's Golf Tournament, it is also the home of the institution dedicated to educating physicians since 1828. The author has extensive experience in the field of health care. Special collections in the Greenblatt Library at the Medical College provided an opportunity to research the history of medical practice in the Antebellum South.
