Timothy Rees began his pursuit of painting in Arizona, where he was soon directed to Chicago to study at the historic Palette and Chisel. After two short years he began teaching to relate his experiences to aspiring artists. Prescribing to the philosophies of the recent movement Novorealism, he puts higher stress on compositional beauty rather than hidden symbolism or paintings that require extravagant explanation. With this in mind, he founded Studio Novo to begin training students to use techniques of realism to convey their ideas.
