George Gilland grew up on ranches in the "West River Country," and he has been involved in ranching and farming for most of his life. He has raised prize-winning cattle on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation for more than 30 years. He is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and has served as president of the Lakota Ranchers Association and treasurer of the American Indian Livestock Association.
