Tom Powers retired from the Flint Public Library in 1999 after 31 years of service in order to pursue writing, reading, traveling, laughter, watching hockey, and perfecting the art of enjoying life. Powers' first book, Natural Michigan, was published in 1987, and the first edition of Michigan State and National Parks: A Complete Guide appeared in 1989. Revised editions of both books are still in print. His other works include Michigan in Quotes, Audubon Guide to National Wildlife Refuges, and Great Birding in the Great Lakes, also all in print.
