Diana grew up in a small town in eastern Connecticut. The mill town, Willimantic, once a thriving economic center, was the largest nearby community. There she remembers the mills, established in the 1800s and running until the mid 1980s. To give her novels authenticity she researches the local sites and history. She has many ties to the Shetucket River the mills and mill towns in eastern Connecticut, so it was natural that her novels are set in them.
