Laurie Penman is a Mechanical Engineer who practised as a designer for two decades before becoming a clock maker and restorer in 1972. The change was the result of a long stay in hospital - and it was there that the idea of the Celtic Empire was born. There are four unpublished books written so far (and a fifth on the way), spread over more than a quarter of century, but in the meantime Laurie became known as a teacher of clock making, published several books on the subject, contributed to a couple of monthly column and constructed and operated a correspondence course.
