Betty Jean Pearson has a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree which certifies her as an educational diagnostician and special education teacher. She taught special education in public schools for over twenty-three years. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1960, she reclaimed her life from a wheelchair in 1980 with the help of painful surgery and a trusty service dog.
