The author developed a love for the great American West as she grew up on a farm in Idaho. History was a favorite subject in school, and tales of Indian tribes and the wagon train era captured her imagination. Literature and writing became strong interests in high school and college, but she didn't earn a college degree until after marrying and raising her children.
