A. Edward Newton (1864-1940) was a writer, book collector, traveler, family man, and businessman. He served as president of the Cutter Electric Equipment Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, which enabled him to delve into the vast and expensive world of book collecting. Over his lifetime, Newton accumulated over 10,000 books and rare articles. Since the publication of its first edition, his Amenities has sold over 25,000 copies.
