Otto Newman received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the London School of Economics and chaired the Department of Social Sciences, the largest in the U.K. at South Bank University, London from 1975 to 1986. He was also Director of the Lifestyle Research Unit which, closely linked to the Greater London Council, co-operated in effecting policies to widen the prospects of city youth.
