Amanda S. Nelson worked as a kindergarten teacher for nearly fifteen years after earning her BS in elementary education from Florida Gulf Coast University. While teaching, she was honored with the prestigious Brilliant Orange Award, which is given to Hendry County's best first-year teachers, and was later named the 2010 Teacher of the Year for Edward A. Upthegrove Elementary School. A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Nelson lives with her husband, Danny, on her family ranch near Fort Myers, Florida.
