Howard L. Needles is a retired Professor of Textiles and Materials Science at the University of California, Davis. After receiving his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Missouri, he began his career conducting research on wool and related systems. His research was then extended to include synthetic fibers and the effects of chemical modification on the dyeing and color properties of these fibers. He is a past program chairman, chairman, awards chairman, and Fellow of the Cellulose, Paper, and Textile Division of American Chemical Society.
