Miriam Ruth Moskowitz was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on June 10, 1916. She graduated from the City College of New York (now the City University of New York), evening session with a B.S. in Education in 1942. Caught up in the McCarthy era hysteria, in 1950 she was wrongfully convicted of conspiracy to obstruct justice and was imprisoned for two years and fined $10,000. After her release she worked in public relations and then taught school until 1984 when she retired. She is now in her mid-90s, and lives in a suburb of New York City.
