Moranda spent most of his work life with Chevron Oil Company, starting as a service station attendant and retired from the company as Retail Manager of the Los Angeles area. His work with Chevron was interrupted twice: first when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served until the war ended, after which he joined the California National Guard's 40th Infantry Division; and second, when that division was ordered to active service and sent into combat during the Korean War.
