Raised in Southern Maryland, Kristie Higgins grew up as a horse lover, riding friends' horses whenever possible. Short stories written as a horse-obsessed teenager have stuck with her and are now emerging as novels. She is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington and a retired instrumental music teacher. She taught in various elementary schools in Maryland for twelve years before retir-ing.
