Orville Smidt was born and raised on a farm in Brookings County, South Dakota. Orv asked Jesus into his heart at a young age at a revival in Toronto, South Dakota. Orv was married to Charlotte Ann Lee at the First Church of God in Brookings, South Dakota in 1961. Orv and Charlotte completed a thirty-two-year career in the United States Army in 1993. They had military assignments in fifteen states including three overseas assignments in Germany, one in Canada, and one in Vietnam flying helicopters in the 3/17th Air Cavalry.
