J. Midgley grew up in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. After obtaining a degree in Education from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, she moved to Russellville, Arkansas. She earned a Master's Degree in Administration from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. There she raised a family and retired after thirty-five years of teaching in the Public Schools.
