Merriam, Alan P.

Alan P. Merriam (1923-1980) was a famous ethnomusicologist known for his three part argument of music in culture. He believed that ethnomusicology should be studied in terms of conceptualization about music, behavior in relation to music, and the sound of music. Some of his works include "The Anthropology of Music", "African Music in Perspective", and "A Bibliography of Jazz".
