Kobena Mercer is Professor of Art History and African American Studies at Yale University. Most recently he has contributed a chapter on contemporary art to The Image of the Black in Western Art, vol. 5: The Twentieth Century; part 2: The Rise of Black Artists, edited by David Bindman and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (Harvard University Press, 2014).
