Tegan was born in Queensland, Australia. The youngest of four, she lived on a small property in the D'Aguilar Ranges. As a young child, Tegan would spend her days outside; running through paddocks, swimming around waterfalls and exploring as much as she could. It was through this upbringing that Tegan's imagination flourished. She was regularly found directing her friends in plays she'd thought up, writing short stories, screenplays and poems and started her first children's novel when she was 17.
