Dr George K McGilvary, Honorary Fellow at Edinburgh University, specializes in the History of the English East India Company in the Eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He also focuses on the thrust of the Scottish elite into South-East England and via East India patronage, into India, South-East Asia and China between 1675 and 1860. His research encompasses the importance to Scotland of the returned nabob's wealth and experience; as well as the magnitude of the trade networks in the east created by Scots.
