McCarter, Margaret Hill

Margaret Hill McCarter describes her protagonist in The Corner Stone, Edith Grannell, from the perspective of Edith's uncle Samson Grannell: "As she stood up before him, capable, determined, and winsomely attractive, she seemed fitted alike to adorn a home or to take care of herself." This was likely a bold position to take when the story was published in 1915 - that a woman might be equally suited to be a wife - or not. But it was not so surprising to be taken by McCarter.
