Marie Manilla is a West Virginia native who delights in exploding Appalachian stereotypes in her fiction. Her books include Still Life with Plums: Short Stories (2010); Shrapnel (2012), winner of the Fred Bonnie Award for Best First Novel and The Patron Saint of Ugly (2014), winner of the Weatherford Award.
