Ninki Mallet was born in South Africa, graduated from the Holy Rosary Convent in Port Elizabeth, Cape Province, and then went to La Chatelainie in Neuchatel, Switzerland where she studied French and Literature. She then went to L'Universita Degli Stranieri in Perugia, Italy where she studied Italian. Her first career was in film production in Europe after which she lived and worked as a columnist for The Bangkok Post in Thailand until her retirement in 2000.
