Michael Byrnes is a former Australian foreign correspondent who was based in many East Asian centers. China, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines and elsewhere in Southeast Asia was his beat. His coverage of issues centering on money and power frequently got beneath the skin of governments, presidents and other notables, and put him at the center of turbulent events. He now lives in Sydney but travels to Asia frequently.
