<P>James Lyons is lecturer in film studies at the University of Exeter. He is the co-editor (with Mark Jancovich) of <I>Quality Popular Television</I> (2003). He is the associate director of the Bill Douglas Center for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture, and one of the co-founders of the film journal <I>Scope.</I> He received his PhD in American studies at the University of Kansas.</P>
