1963, Danny Lyon joined the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee (SNCC). As their sta
photographer he made photographs that proved to
be an important historical record of the Southern
Civil Rights Movement. Lyon subsequently gained
broad recognition as a photographer, filmmaker, and
writer. Working in the style called New Journalism,
