During his college days, Mr. Loney met two presidents while a student intern in the nation's capital, and he played the cello in the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. He subsequently served three tours of duty in coastal South Vietnam as a boat group commander while attached to a U. S. Naval amphibious ship.
