Raymond Arthur Lohne was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 1956. He holds a Master's degree in history from Northeastern Illinois University and is currently a teaching assistant and Ph.D. student in the History Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where his field research involves interviewing, photographing, and filming the Danube Swabians of Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Romania living in Chicago and other major American cities.
