John Lightfoot began his career as a Marine Engineer Cadet with Shell Tankers but after 9 years he left the sea and eventually ended up as the Factory Manager of a window blind manufacturing company based in his South Shields home town. It was during his time in the factory, in 1974 that many of the self employed agents would call to pick up their orders and regale to John how great things were and how exciting and rewarding it was being self-employed.
