Growing up in a small town in Southeast Alaska, he was both inspired and shaped by its pristine natural beauty. As a young child, Michael exhibited an innate gift for visual arts, expressing himself freely through drawing and painting. His eyes had become the filter he experienced the world through. He internalized moments, interpreted how they felt, and sent them back out in his own voice. It was in his angst-filled teenage years that he was introduced to writing by a mentor and soon developed a love for the emotive qualities of language. Through poetry, he learned to paint with words.
