Today Cyprus remains the only nation in the world with a divided capitol city. The nation has a demilitarized zone cutting through it and the once mixed cultures of Greek and Turkish Cypriot speaking people living together in inter-communal villages are now divided. I chose to tell this story as a family saga using a young woman as the main character. Through the voices of several characters, the complicated and confusing contemporary history of Cyprus is presented in a way that isn't burdensome to the reader.
