Gina Lagorio lived for many years in Liguria, teaching literature and history. Having moved to Milan, she collaborated with many journals, newspapers, and the Italian State Television RAI. Award-winning author of fifteen novels and nine books of literary criticism, she also wrote for the theater and authored books for children. In addition to winning the Viareggio Prize, she also garnered the Campiello Award and the Fliano Award. She was elected to the Italian Parliament in 1988 and served for five years, as a memeber of the Independent Left. She died in 2005, after a long illness.
