James LaCroce is an artist and clinical psychologist who lives and works in San Francisco. He is recently married and a happy dog owner. His first book, Chimpy Discovers His Family was published in 2010 and used illustration to tell the story of an orphan chimp who is adopted by a gay couple. Dr. LaCroce uses Chimpy and his friends to tell stories about the challenges and joys of LGBT community. His most recent illustrated book, Chimpy Saves the Neighborhood, uses San Francisco's Castro neighborhood to address community violence and personal freedom with humor and hope.
