Evangelos Konstantinou was born 1933 in Askri near the ancient city of Thebes in Greece. From 1952-1957 he studied Orthodox Theology at the University of Athens and from 1960-1962 Byzantine History and Philosophy at the Freie Universitat in Berlin. He took his Ph.D. 1963 and from 1964-1966 he had a scholarship from the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Foundation. From 1971-1999 he was Professor of Byzantine Studies and Greek Literature at the University of Wurzburg. Since 2002 Evangelos Konstantinou is member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg.
