Lajos Koncz, the author and editor, was born in Hungary. At the age of 8, his family fled the country ahead of the Soviet occupation following WWII. He grew up in Germany where he attended one of the Hungarian boarding schools described in this book, and went on to complete his studies and medical training in Munich. He immigrated to the US in 1969 and practiced medicine in Boston, MA for 35 years.
