Jeane J. Kirkpatrick (1926-2006) served as President Ronald Reagan's foreign policy advisor during his 1980 campaign and shortly thereafter became the first woman to serve as the United States ambassador to the United Nations. She also served as a member of Reagan's Intelligence Advisory Board, and Defense Policy Review Board. After stepping down from her governmental roles she became a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and resumed her position as professor of government at Georgetown University.
