Joe Kiefer never knew his father. He was made a ward of the state at a young age and placed in an orphanage. His mother was unable to care for him in a healthy, life giving way. Having attended 12 different schools and living in more than 25 different places by the time he was 18 Joe launched out on his own. Joe missed out on many things growing up but found that reading was a way to experience life in a whole new way.
