Kennedy was raised in suburban bliss just on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. After graduating from high school in 1990, she packed her '72 VW Bug and headed for Los Angeles, where she became a DJ at KROQ radio station at the age of nineteen. Two years later she moved to New York and got a gig at MTV, hosting the nightly video show "Alternative Nation." In addition, Kennedy was a CBS commentator during the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, and she appears frequently as a speaker at colleges and universities.
