Displacement is Shawn Padraic Murphy's first comic book. Displacement initially started as a comedic web comic based on his freshman life at college called "Wesleyan World," but the idea for a serious story suddenly entered, breaking the tone and format of the strip and was quickly abandoned. It was later made into a comic book script that he merged with a fiction story he had created a few years prior.
