Born on remote Hainan Island, South China, Anna Louise Bucher lived mostly in different parts of Asia until she was fourteen years old. Due to the conquest of the Philippine Islands by Japan, her family was detained there throughout World War II. In 1949 the communist takeover of China made it necessary for the family to leave that country and relocate in the United States. Anna and her husband, John Jones, reside in Helena, Montana.
