Elsie Johnstone was originally a primary school teacher and special education specialist. Over the years she also worked as an office cleaner in London, kitchen hand, shop assistant, waitress, photographer, Avon sales representative and betting shop clerk. In 2001 she quit her job as a teacher and joined her husband Graeme in their business venture, The Wordsmith's Shop, a unique establishment that wrote everything from personal letters to books for a wide range of clients.
