Jewkes, Yvonne

Yvonne Jewkes is Professor of Criminology at the University of Leicester, UK. Her research interests lie in two broad areas. The first is the intersections between crime, media and culture and the role of popular media discourses as sites of social inclusion/ exclusion. Her other main area of expertise is prisons and the sociology of imprisonment, especially prison design and its influence on the lives of prisoners and staff; and prison culture, including social networks, constructions of masculine identities and flows of power in prisons.
