Jared, Travis

"An architect, urbanist, and educator, Travis Jared has criss-crossed Asia studying the developing world and the inner workings of its cities. A former officer in the US Navy's Civil Engineer Corps, he has assisted military-led reconstruction efforts in post-Katrina New Orleans, run a fabrication shop staffed by Afghan carpenters, mentored the Afghan Army on Regional Planning, and supervised the Navy shipyard rehabilitation at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He is the author of "A Life Away: Letters From Afghanistan, "which reflects on the US military's role as nation-builder to the world."
