Aquila Ismail nee Rahman was born in East Pakistan and moved to Karachi in 1972 following the creation of Bangladesh. She has worked as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the NED University, Karachi, and as Development Engineer for Glaxo Laboratories Pakistan. She has written extensively on literature, women's issues as well as development concerns of Karachi in leading Pakistani newspapers and magazines.
