George F. Howe, a graduate of the University of Vermont, received the Ph. D. degree in History from Harvard University in 1930. He was a member of the faculty of the University of Cincinnati from 1926 to 1945. In 1932-33 he studied and traveled in England, France, and the Mediterranean area as a Fellow of the Social Science Research Council. In 1945 he became a staff member of the Historical Branch, G-2, War Department.
