Reva Coker Horton grew up in the community of Indain Creek in Comanche County, Texas. The small Methodist Church of this community was where she began learning of the Lord and observing the behavior of men and women within its membership. During the life of the Indian Creek Methodist Church there would be eleven men ordained to preach the gospel. Reva's father was the last of those men.
